This week on Censored Mondo
We feature several classic censored films from the 1930's. POLY TIX IN WASHINGTON features a very young Shirley Temple playing a Washington DC call girl. It was banned after the production code of 1934 was introduced and forbid these types of roles.
COCAINE FIENDS was a feature-length film that explored the corrupt world of gangs and drugs in America. It faced regional censorship by theatre owners not inclined to show exploitative films. The same fate met REEFER MADNESS, originally titled 'Tell your Children' which was a morality tale of the dangers of Marijuana. Distributed by RKO studios, it hid its exploitive content under the guise of education but many theatre owners wanted nothing to do with it.
